The film marks Prince's acting debut as The Kid, a driven young musician from a tough background, performing at the First Avenue Nightclub with his band, The Revolution. His life takes a turn when he meets Apollonia (Apollonia Kotero), but he risks losing her due to his father's (Clarence Williams III) replicated abusive behavior. The Kid must overcome his rival, Morris (Morris Day), and his own demons to achieve love and success.

Starring Jill Jones, Dez Dickerson, Wendy Melvoin, Prince, and others, with contributions from Robert Cavallo and more, this release includes a Blu-ray / 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray (40th Anniversary) format by Warner Bros. Home Ent., featuring English and multiple subtitle options, and is set for release on 24 June 2024, commemorating its original 1984 release. It comes with two discs, weighing 90g with dimensions of 135 x 15 x 171 mm.
